Inhaler for horses
Nebu-Tec
The Nebu-Tec inhalation device was developed by veterinarians for the preventive and supportive treatment of respiratory diseases. Thanks to various sealing rings, the device can be adapted to almost all horses' noses. The inhalation device can be operated wirelessly and can therefore be used anywhere.

What characterises the Nebu-Tec company?
The company Nebu-Tec was founded in 1996 by Eike and Stefan Kern. Initially, inhalers were developed and manufactured for the dose-precise inhalation of medication in human medicine. In 2004, in consultation with veterinarians, the decision was made to make the inhalers available for animals as well. The following year, Nebu-Tec was the first company to launch an inhalation device for horses. The veterinary sector was expanded in the following years to include devices for cats and dogs.
It should be emphasised that production is 100% in Germany. Assembly, adjustment and final inspection are carried out exclusively at the Elsenfeld site. The company has laboratories and climatic rooms there that meet the high medical requirements in human and veterinary medicine. This ensures consistent quality.
How can inhalation help my horse with respiratory problems?
- Active ingredients reach their destination directly and quickly
- Drug can be dosed significantly lower
- Undesirable side effects are greatly reduced
- Can be administered by the horse owner themselves
- Very regular application possible without much effort
Please note that the information on our website is not sufficient for self-diagnosis. A vet should always be consulted to diagnose respiratory diseases and before treatment.
Does my horse have to be ill to inhale?
No! The inhalation of saline solution supports the mucous membranes in their defence against infection. Well-moisturised airways make it difficult for viruses and bacteria to take hold. If your horse is ill, low doses of medication can also be nebulised after consultation with the vet.
When does inhalation therapy help horses?
The inhalation device can be used preventively, but also in acute cases of illness. Especially in winter and in the transitional seasons, coughs, mucus in the airways and runny noses can occur. In these cases, a consultation with the vet is necessary to clarify whether the horse needs medication. Various medications can be nebulised using the SaHoMa®-II inhalation device. However, inhalation of saline solution can also help your horse in such cases.
Should I move my horse before or after inhalation?
It is advisable to move the horse after inhalation, as the horse's metabolism is stimulated by the movement and the mucus and secretions can be loosened by the deep breaths during the movement. Subsequent feeding from the ground can also be beneficial and have a positive effect on the therapy, as the horse lowers its head and the mucus can drain better. Of course, you can also have your horse inhale again after the exercise.
Can my horse inhale on its own?
During the familiarisation phase and therefore especially the first time, you should stay with your horse to see whether it is relaxed when the mask is put on and the inhalation process is carried out. If your horse remains calm, you can also carry out other activities or groom your horse during the inhalation process thanks to the automatic switch-off function. The SaHoMa®-II mesh nebuliser switches off automatically as soon as the medication or saline solution has completely evaporated.
What should you look out for when buying an inhaler for horses?
Almost silent nebulisation is important. If the inhalation device works quietly, this is more pleasant for your horse and causes less stress than loud devices. You should also pay attention to the particle size of the nebuliser. The particles produced should be as small as possible. The combination of particle size and time is also important, because the smaller the particles should be, the longer the nebulisation process takes. A good combination of both makes sense here.
Also make sure the product is of good quality. All parts should be stable enough to withstand handling by horses. Customisation to the head and nostrils is also important so that the aerosols do not escape undesirably.
The Nebu-Tec inhalation device also has a low resistance to inhalation. If the resistance is too high, it is more difficult to inhale. This is not the case with the SaHoMa®-II inhaler for horses thanks to the membrane. It also prevents the horse from inhaling dusty outside air or aerosols from escaping.
