An inhaler does not replace a veterinary examination. If your horse is coughing or breathing more heavily, have the cause investigated by your vet. Your vet will also decide whether inhalation makes sense, with which solution, how often and for how long. According to Nebu-Tec, the SaHoMa-II can nebulise all inhalation solutions that are approved for inhalation with a nebuliser or that Nebu-Tec has tested and approved. Please also follow the instructions for use.

How the SaHoMa-II works

The core is the mesh nebuliser unit. According to the manufacturer, it works with a finely perforated disc and a piezo ceramic. The pumping movement pushes the solution through the tiny holes, creating a fine mist, the aerosol. The nebuliser unit sits on a mask housing that your horse wears over its nose. At the back, a sealing ring adapts the housing to the horse’s head; at the front, the filter basket holds the filter membrane.

What is included in the set

According to the manufacturer, the SaHoMa-II inhalation set for horses contains:

• Control unit, power supply, mesh nebuliser unit and lid fix
• Housing, cover, filter basket, filter membrane and sealing ring for large horses
• Fastening strap and carrying case
• Medication and mixing cup
• sterile water, isotonic saline solution 0.9 %, rinsing solution and cleaning concentrate for the nebuliser unit

Spare parts and accessories

• Mesh nebuliser unit (HM-236): it is the successor to the HM-235 and, according to Nebu-Tec, fits all SaHoMa-II control units. New features are a screw cap, a crystal-clear medication container and a revised internal geometry. Nebu-Tec recommends using a separate nebuliser unit for each horse and each inhalation solution.
• Filter membranes (HM-214): they are placed in the filter basket. According to the manufacturer, one membrane lasts for about five uses. They are available in a pack of 5 and in a pack of 50.
• Sealing ring: it is inserted into the housing before inhalation. It comes in three sizes: HM-215 for large horses, HM-216 for foals and HM-219 for small foals.
• Filter basket: it is made of impact- and scratch-resistant ABS plastic, holds the filter membrane on the housing and is attached with two clicks.
• Adapter for metered-dose inhalers (HM-107): it allows you to use a metered-dose inhaler together with the SaHoMa-II housing if your vet prescribes this.
• Dosing bottle: the bottle holds 250 ml and is supplied empty. You can use it, for example, to fill distilled water precisely into the nebuliser unit.

Cleaning and storage

Clean the nebuliser unit, housing and cup after every use as described in the instructions for use. Then let the parts dry completely before reassembling them or storing them in the case. Change the filter membranes regularly. For transport and storage, everything goes into the supplied case so that the small parts stay together. Nebu-Tec classifies the set and accessories as medical products.
