Protection for the hands

Riding gloves

Riding gloves are irreplaceable when dealing with horses. They ensure that you keep a firm grip on the reins when riding. They also offer protection when handling the horse, whether you are grooming, in the saddle or working in the stable.

What makes good riding gloves?

The most important aspect of a good riding glove is probably its comfort. Whether leather gloves or riding gloves with studs, there should be no rubbing, slipping or blisters anywhere. The material should be non-slip, especially on the ring finger, to enable good rein control. The riding glove should also have an elasticated cuff that can be closed tightly around the wrist.

Riding gloves for the summer

  • lightweight fabrics are particularly breathable and prevent sweaty hands
  • often with mesh inserts
  • also available with UV protection
  • e.g. made from nylon, polyester, polyurethane or synthetic leather

Riding gloves for the winter

  • Well lined and windproof
  • slightly thicker than normal riding gloves, so the fit is important
  • usually made from a thicker material

Find the right riding glove size

To find the right size, place a tape measure around your knuckles. Do not include your thumb. Close your hand loosely and read the circumference on the tape measure. These measurements are guidelines.
