Acavallo pads: gel pads, risers and memory foam
Acavallo pads come in two materials: gel and memory foam. There are also pads with a wedge that lift the saddle at a specific point. You can see which models are currently available in the listing above. Here you get an overview.
Gel pads made of Acavallo Classic Gel
According to the manufacturer, Acavallo Classic Gel is non-slip and shock-absorbing, hypoallergenic and non-toxic. You can use it directly on your horse's skin. The flat gel pads, such as the Gel pad NS Classic flat, can be cut to size individually. On the anatomic flat gel pad, the middle section is thinner so that, according to the manufacturer, it adapts to the withers and back. There are also versions with their own gel structure:
- In the massage design, the gel consists of cylindrical elements.
- In the Respira design, small raised points with side openings provide horizontal air circulation, according to the manufacturer.
- Some gel pads have a sheepskin edge or a sheepskin cut-out.
Risers and wedges: raised at the front, middle or back
A riser, also called a wedge, lifts the saddle at one specific point. The important difference is between a full pad with wedge and a partial pad:
- Raised at the front: The Gel pad NS Classic with front wedge is a full gel pad with a front riser. The Gel riser NS Classic front (partial pad), on the other hand, is a partial pad (Gel Front Riser) that only lifts the front of the saddle. According to the manufacturer, it is intended for horses with high withers or for horses that have lost muscle in the shoulder and withers area.
- Raised in the middle: According to the manufacturer, the Gel NS Classic centre wedge is intended for saddles with a low middle profile that need central lift.
- Raised at the back: The Gel riser NS Classic rear (partial pad) is a partial pad (Gel Rear Riser) that lifts the rear of the saddle and can be combined with an Acavallo gel pad. Full pads raised at the back are the Respira Air Release gel pad with sheepskin and rear wedge and the Classic gel pad made of memory foam with rear wedge.
Memory foam and saddle cushions
According to the manufacturer, Acavallo pads made of memory foam (abbreviation "MF") adapt to the horse's silhouette and distribute pressure over a large area. The range includes:
- saddle cushions with suede lining that you can use on their own or with a classic saddle pad
- a saddle cushion with a double felt layer and free withers
- a western flat pad with sheepskin and Classic Gel
- a half pad with pockets for additional inserts
- close contact saddle pads with memory foam and gel or silicone grip
Not to be confused with: seat savers for you
Acavallo seat savers sit on the saddle seat and are designed for your comfort as a rider, not as a pad for your horse. That is why you will not find them on this page.
Pad or saddler?
A pad can support the fit of the saddle or compensate temporarily. It does not replace a saddle that fundamentally does not fit. If in doubt, have the fit checked by your saddler.
You can find more saddle pads from other brands under saddle pads & riding pads. Everything else from Acavallo, from horse boots to bridles, is on the Acavallo brand page. You can find matching stirrups under Acavallo stirrups.
An Acavallo gel pad is made of Classic Gel and is mainly intended to stabilise the saddle against slipping and to absorb shocks. According to the manufacturer, memory foam adapts to the horse's silhouette and distributes pressure over a large area. Some models combine both.
This refers to pads with a riser or wedge. They lift the saddle at the front, in the middle or at the back in a targeted way. Check whether you are choosing a full pad with wedge or a partial pad that you combine with a flat gel pad.
