Sport or hobby?

Where does Hobby Horsing come from?

Hobby Horsing originated in Finland around 2008. There, the hobby horse was adapted so that it could also be used for running and jumping. Year after year, many tournaments are organised at local and national level.

Thanks to social media, "riding" with the hobbyhorse is spreading all over the world. Dressage as well as show jumping and western competitions are ridden in the arena.

The first German clubs have also been offering hobby horsemanship since 2018. The German Hobby Horsing Association was founded at the end of 2023. Since then, the Finnish rules have gradually been adopted into German and made accessible to the general public.

No longer just wood

What is a Hobby Horse?

A Hobby Horse is a hobby horse with a realistically designed horse head. The short handle makes it possible to walk and jump.

The horse's head is not a flat section of wood as it used to be, but a real horse's head filled with soft cotton wool, which even allows the horse to be fitted with bars and bits.

Many coat colours and hobby horses with different designs are now available. So you too can bring your favourite horse home.
