Dressage or jumping saddle pad: cut and size at Eskadron
Every Eskadron saddle pad is available as a dressage saddle pad (DL, with a straight, longer flap) and as a jumping saddle pad (VS, curved at the front and shorter). Both come in warmblood and pony sizes, many models also as Shetland and as "Jumping Special", another jumping version with an adapted cut. Cotton, Glossy, Softshell: the materials
Cotton is the everyday cotton saddle pad: absorbent, easy-care and, at around €30 to €40, the most affordable way in – ideal for embroidery. Glossy and Highgloss have a shiny, smooth surface that dust and hair hardly stick to – the show classic. Mattgloss is the more subtle version. Softshell is stretchy, holds its shape and is slightly water-repellent – the best-selling Eskadron saddle pad at Lepona is a Softshell. Satin and Velours are the premium surfaces of the collections, Bouclé and Evo-Wool the textured fabrics of the Heritage line. Inside, all models have a breathable lining and are padded with a foam insert that keeps its shape.
Glitter, Sparkle, Crystal, Jewel: the embellishments
These terms in the model name describe the binding and the accents, not the outer material. Sparkle stands for a glittering outer fabric, Glitter for glitter threads in the cotton, Crystal for rhinestones on the cord or binding, Jewel for the decorative cord with crystal trim, Pearls for a pearl cord. So a black saddle pad with glitter would be, for example, the Platinum Sparkle Jewel or the Satin Crystal in black. For dressage tests we recommend subtle embellishments; for jumping and leisure, anything goes.
Eskadron saddle pads by colour
The Basic Line carries the permanent colours, while the collections bring new shades every season. Filtered by main colour: beige, blue, brown, yellow, gold, grey, green, orange, pink, red, black, white. Current collection colours: Classic Sports: coral blossom, navy, ocean, orchid, sierra, steel blue, white; Platinum: amber, golden yellow, pale grey, black, slate blue, smoky taupe, soft rouge; Dynamic: lipstick, navy, powdertaupe; Heritage: black truffle, cardamom, navy, wildberry.
Saddle pad sets with boots, headcollar and fly veil
Every collection saddle pad has matching boots, fly veils, headcollars and overreach boots in the same colour. Sold-out colours don't come back, so it's worth completing a set in the first few weeks after a collection launches. Warmblood fits most horses from about 155 cm in height and standard saddles from 17 inches. Pony is meant for ponies, small horses and small saddles up to about 16.5 inches, Shetland for Shetland ponies. What matters is that the saddle pad extends about a hand's width beyond the saddle all round.
The dressage saddle pad (DL) has a straight, longer flap to match the dressage saddle. The jumping saddle pad (VS) is curved at the front and shorter so it doesn't stick out under the forward-cut jumping saddle. For eventing saddles, the jumping cut usually works best.
On a gentle cycle at 30 °C, without fabric softener, with the Velcro closed. Turn Glitter, Sparkle and Crystal models inside out and don't spin them. Don't tumble dry – dry flat or over the line so the foam insert keeps its shape. Between washes, brushing out the underside is enough.
Cotton is absorbent, affordable and great for embroidery – ideal for training. Glossy has a smooth, shiny surface that hair and dust hardly stick to, and looks more elegant at shows. If you want both, go for Softshell: easy-care, holds its shape and is slightly water-repellent.
Yes. For dressage tests, depending on the association, there are rules on colour and embellishment; subtle Sparkle or Crystal cords are common. There are no restrictions for show jumping. White and muted colours are always on the safe side.
Within a collection, the colours are matched exactly; between years, shades can differ slightly. Basic colours like black, white and navy work across collections. For special colours, the set advisor on the Eskadron brand page shows which pieces are still available in that colour.
How do you wash Eskadron saddle pads?
Eskadron saddle pads are easy to care for. However, you should always check the washing instructions before washing. As a rule, any outer material, be it glossy, cotton or velvet, can be washed on the gentle cycle of your washing machine.
However, you should not wash the saddle pads too often so that they remain particularly durable and retain their shape. Brushing the underside/inside occasionally usually helps to remove hair, dirt or sweat.
After washing, it is best to hang the saddle pad on a clothes horse or washing line so that the saddle pad retains its shape and the fabric does not warp.
