Eskadron rugs
Eskadron rugs cover the whole year: stable rugs and under-rugs for clipped horses, turnout and outdoor rugs from a light rain sheet up to 400 g fill, plus neck covers, chest protectors and replacement surcingles. Coolers, exercise and quarter sheets as well as fly rugs have their own pages with us.
Which Eskadron rug for which purpose?
The choice depends on three questions: is the horse in the stable or outdoors, is it clipped, and how cold will it get. That determines the rug type and the fill.
- Turnout and outdoor rugs (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Omega, Ripstop): waterproof, breathable outer material, fills from 0 to 400 g. Without fill or with 50 g as a rain sheet in the transition season, 100 to 200 g for unclipped horses in winter, 250 to 400 g for clipped horses or very cold locations.
- Stable rugs (Cotton Fauxfur, Zeta): warm in the stable without weather protection, 100 to 200 g fill, cotton or faux-fur inside against rub marks.
- Under rugs (Thermo Cotton 240 g, Anti Slip 100 g): under a turnout or stable rug for extra warmth; the anti-slip version prevents slipping and rubbing at the shoulder.
- Accessories: Zip neck cover, chest protector against rub marks, chest extension, fillet string with carabiner, Inno-Strap replacement surcingles.

Size, fill and fit for Eskadron rugs
Eskadron gives rug sizes in centimetres of back length, measured from the withers to the dock, in steps from 105 to 165 cm. The detailed Eskadron size chart with body and side length is on the cooler page and applies to all rugs. For turnout rugs choose rather one size larger than for coolers, so the rug does not pull over the shoulder.

Guide values that depend on the horse: hardy breeds and horses with a dense winter coat need less, older, thin-skinned or clipped horses more. Check at the base of the ear and behind the withers: warm, but not damp.
More Eskadron rugs
For drying after riding the Eskadron coolers, for warming up and leading the exercise and quarter sheets, for the pasture in summer the fly rugs. Reduced rugs are in the Eskadron Sale.
Unclipped horses usually manage with 100 to 200 g in winter; clipped ones need 200 to 400 g. For rain and wind in the transition season a rug without fill or with 50 g is enough. What matters is checking the horse: warm and dry behind the withers.
Measure the back length from the withers to the dock; sizes run in 10 cm steps from 105 to 165 cm. Choose turnout rugs rather one size larger than coolers. The full size chart is on our cooler page.
The turnout rug has a waterproof, breathable outer material and leg straps for outdoors. The stable rug warms in the stable without weather protection and is lined more softly inside. If you need both, combine a light turnout rug with an under rug.
The zip neck cover belongs to the Dynamic fleece cooler. Chest extension, fillet string and Inno-Strap surcingles are meant for the Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Omega turnout rugs. The chest protector can be worn under any rug.
