Fly rugs - protection against insects in summer
Fly rugs or eczema rugsprotect the entire horse's body from insect bites. They are available as full-body rugs or riding rugs, but it is important that they fit properly. They must not be too big or too small in order to avoid chafing.
Fly rugs are usually made of knitted fabric and are completely breathable and permeable to air, so they are no problem even at high temperatures. The special mesh look of the eczema rugs also protects against biting midges. They absorb perspiration and reduce UV rays. Blankets in light colours are generally advisable for horses with eczema!
What is the Zebra fly rug?
The special pattern of zebra-look fly rugs confuses flying insects. This prevents them from landing on the horse and effectively keeps them away. Many blankets for horses with eczema have a zebra pattern and also have a neck section that reaches up to the ears. This also protects the neck and keeps the mane intact.
