Kentucky turnout rugs
With Kentucky turnout rugs from the All Weather range, your horse is protected from rain, wind and cold in the field and paddock. The rugs have a waterproof coating and, depending on the model, are available without fill or with up to 400 g, from light rain sheets to winter rugs. Rain and winter rugs from Kentucky
The All Weather turnout rugs come as Classic, Comfort and Pro, plus the All Weather Quick Dry Fleece with neck cover: very light, with fleece on the back and neck, 600D ripstop outer, with 0 or 150 g fill. We introduce the three main models individually below.
Hurricane rain sheet: The Hurricane is not a turnout rug but a light, compact rain cover made of polyester with a PU coating. You place it over the saddle or rug when leading your horse in the rain. The version with stirrup openings is intended for competition riders who want to keep their horse and saddle dry.
Riding rugs and horse walker: The riding rug has 160 g fill and faux rabbit fur; it attaches to the saddle with hook-and-loop and is held in place by a tail strap. The square models close in front of the saddle, as All Weather with a three-layer membrane, as Heavy Fleece and as a reflective version for road riding. The Walker Rug Waterproof with 160 g is made for the horse walker and lunging. You will find more models from other brands under Exercise sheets and Walker rugs.
Which fill is right? Unclipped horses with a winter coat often manage with a rain sheet without fill or with 50 g. For the transitional season, 100 to 160 g is suitable; clipped horses tend to need 200 to 400 g in cold weather. What matters is the temperature, coat, clip and how much your horse moves.

All Weather Waterproof Classic
The Classic is the light turnout rug for daily turnout. On the outside it has 600D ripstop with a waterproof coating, on the inside a smooth polyester lining. It comes with 0, 50, 150 or 300 g fill, so as a rain sheet or a winter rug. Two stainless steel front fastenings with hook-and-loop, cross surcingles and a removable tail cord keep it in place. A detachable neck cover is available separately.
All Weather Waterproof Comfort
The Comfort is anatomically shaped and has a comfort front closure and three belly straps. The 1200D outer fabric is more robust than on the Classic, and reflective elements make the rug more visible at dusk. It has no spine seam and is available with fills from 0 to 400 g.
All Weather Waterproof Pro
The Pro is the most robust model: the 1680D outer fabric with a canvas look stands up well to scuffles in the field. The PU coating has a 10,000 mm hydrostatic head, the rug is lined with faux rabbit fur, and there is no spine seam. Two stainless steel front fastenings with hook-and-loop, two cross surcingles and a rubberised tail strap are included. Fills 0, 160 and 300 g, also in khaki. The neck cover is available separately.

How do I wash Kentucky turnout rugs?
The All Weather turnout rugs can be machine-washed at 30 °C, but must not go in the tumble dryer. To keep them waterproof, Kentucky recommends reproofing them after more than five washes. Kentucky also advises washing as rarely as possible, using a wash bag and washing large rugs in a machine with a larger drum. It is best to wash the cross surcingles and tail strap in a wash bag as well so they do not get tangled.
That depends on temperature, coat and clip. Unclipped horses often wear 0 to 50 g, in the transitional season 100 to 160 g is usual, and clipped horses tend to need 200 to 400 g in cold weather.
The Classic is the light everyday rug with 600D ripstop. The Comfort is anatomically shaped, with 1200D and a comfort front closure. The Pro has the strongest outer fabric at 1680D and a faux rabbit fur lining.
The denier number describes the yarn thickness of the outer fabric. The higher it is, the more resistant the rug is to tearing and rubbing, for example in the field with other horses.

Depending on the model, the All Weather turnout rugs come in sizes from 70 to 165 cm, the Comfort in all sizes, the Classic and the Pro from 80 cm. The size chart on this page shows which size fits your horse. Riding rugs come in S, M and L, though not every model in all three sizes.
A detachable neck cover is available for the All Weather Classic; the Quick Dry Fleece already comes with a neck cover with hook-and-loop fastening.
