Description
Vector stirrups are a new generation of stirrups – technically advanced and light, yet keeping the classic style you expect from LeMieux.
Made from aerospace-grade aluminium the stirrups offer an impressive strength-to-weight ratio and weigh only 419 g each – lighter than most stirrups on the market, without compromising on stability.
The ergonomic footplate of the Control Stirrup is set to 0° and has a Cross-Track grip surface with embedded pins of hardened steel to offer maximum security for the boot.
The footplate is carried by a Twin-Balance arch system that distributes the weight evenly across the base of the stirrup frame. The highest point of the frame is recessed and offset, which favours a 45° outward alignment. This makes it easier for the rider to find the optimal angle for the foot and to quickly recover a lost stirrup.
An integrated hinged arm has a two-stage release system and thus prevents unintentional opening. The spring-loaded arm locks into the base part of the main frame, so that the rider’s weight under maximum pressure – for example when landing after a jump – is distributed evenly across the stirrup. This prevents the outer side from dropping or bending. When pressure is applied to the arm of the stirrup, the arm is released, allowing the foot to slide out of the stirrup. This minimises the risk of being dragged. The breakaway force of the stirrup arm was 36 N in the test (equivalent to 3.62 kg), which means there is enough resistance to prevent unintentional opening, but it will release when needed.
It is important to note that no stirrup of this design (with a quick-release arm) is 100% guaranteed to open in the event of a fall. There are several factors that can cause the quick-release arm not to open, such as the horse falling, a loose girth causing the saddle to slip, or a slow or unusual exit angle that may not generate enough lateral force to release the arm. While this is extremely rare, users should be aware that no stirrup is completely reliable in every conceivable situation.
The stirrups should be the right size and match the rider’s riding boots. We strongly recommend ensuring that there is a minimum clearance of 10 mm (approx. 3/8") between the stirrup and the widest point of the foot on each side.
