Description
Sweet Iron bits are known for mouthpieces that have a sweet taste. The bits are anatomically shaped and are available in many types and sizes.
??This single-jointed snaffle has solid stainless steel rings and a mild steel mouthpiece combined with a Sweet Iron layer on the mouthpiece (blue). Saliva production is further encouraged by the Sweet Iron layer on the mouthpiece. When this material reacts with moisture, warmth and air it oxidises and develops a sweet-tasting surface rust. This helps with acceptance of the bit. Eventually the blue colour disappears, but the taste of the surface rust remains. ??The anatomical shape follows the form of the horse's mouth, allowing gentle and even pressure distribution. The mouthpiece of a single-jointed snaffle moves at one point. It acts on the tongue, the bars, the corners of the mouth and sometimes also on the horse's palate. When a rein aid is given, the bit takes on a V-shape. Because this mouthpiece has only one moving point, the tongue lies freer than with a double-jointed bit, for example. The mouthpiece is 14 mm thick and the bit rings have a diameter of 65 mm.??A snaffle is a bit with loose bit rings. This type of bit is generally well accepted because the mouthpiece sits relatively loosely in the mouth.
