Description
The Velari single-jointed gag bit Medium Flex is a carefully balanced combination for horses that benefit from gentle support of their outline and a clear, constant connection. It combines a light action, pleasant material comfort and straightforward communication in a way that is suitable for both developing and more experienced horse-and-rider combinations. This bit is aimed at riders who value subtlety without wanting to do without clarity.
The gag offers a subtly refined type of action. When the rider takes up the rein gently, a light upward pressure is created at the corners of the mouth and at the same time a corresponding signal via the poll. This encourages the horse to seek its balance and carry itself with more self-carriage instead of leaning on the hand or falling against it.
For horses that need a little more elevation and orientation without force having to be used, this ring shape offers just the right support.
The mouthpiece is made of Velari’s synthetic Flex Medium material and offers a well-thought-out balance between softness and substance. The material is completely smooth and pleasant to sensitive tissue. At the same time the medium firmness ensures that the horse receives clear feedback with every rein aid – present enough to communicate precisely without feeling rigid or creating a cold, heavy sensation on the tongue. The connection remains constant throughout the action and easy for the rider to read.
The single-jointed mouthpiece gives the whole bit directness and simplicity. When the rein is taken up, the joint forms a gentle V-angle, distributing the pressure along the bars while the centre of the tongue remains free. This configuration is particularly well suited to horses with a higher palate or horses that find double-jointed mouthpieces less comfortable. Horses that find it pleasant to know exactly where the contact is formed, and riders who want direct communication without ambiguity, will appreciate the single-jointed mouthpiece as a reliable and honest choice. Its straightforward action makes it a timeless classic for good reason.
Ideal for:
Horses that should be encouraged to elevate and find their balance without strong rein pressure
Horses with a higher palate or those that prefer a clear and well-defined point of action
Horses that tend to lean on the hand or do not yet show sufficient self-carriage
Horses with a sensitive mouth that benefit from a smooth, non-metallic material
Riders with a calm, educated hand who understand how the action of the gag works
Riders of various disciplines seeking a light but effective training aid
Advanced to experienced riders who want clarity without harshness
Care & use
Rinse the bit with warm water after every ride and dry it with a soft cloth. Store it in a dry place and check regularly that it is worn evenly and smoothly. Make sure the bit is correctly positioned: the star must be on the left side and the Velari logo on the right side.
