The double-jointed Pelham with short shanks in Sweet Iron is a hybrid bit that combines the advantages of snaffle and weymouth action in an elegant design. It enables direct action in the mouth and at the same time uses slight leverage via the shanks, whereby the pressure is distributed between mouth, poll and chin. This dual action makes it an excellent choice for horses that need additional support or more balance without resorting to sharper bits. Elegantly constructed, this bit supports clear communication with soft action and promotes responsiveness while retaining trust. The Sweet Iron mouthpiece oxidises naturally during use. This stimulates salivation and supports a soft, accepting contact. The result is a smoother contact and a calmer, more confident way of going. The double-jointed mouthpiece distributes pressure evenly onto tongue and bars, prevents the nutcracker effect and ensures a stable, pleasant feel. Horses that benefit from balanced pressure distribution and an anatomically following mouthpiece usually respond particularly well to this design. In addition it is well suited to horses with a low palate, as the double-jointed construction reduces upward movement towards the palate roof and offers additional comfort. The short shanks of the Pelham deliver mild leverage that the rider can regulate well. Ridden with two reins or with a Pelham strap the bit offers much flexibility in the aids. The upper ring is attached to the cheekpieces, while the lower ring forms the leverage point. A curb chain can be added for stabilisation and more even pressure distribution.

Care & cleaning
After every ride rinse the bit with warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Over time a light patina forms through the natural oxidation of Sweet Iron that can improve taste and acceptance. Store dry and check regularly for smooth, even wear. Ensure that the bit lies the right way round: the star must be on the left side, the Velari logo on the right.
