Sweet Iron bits are known for the sweet taste of their mouthpieces. The bits are anatomically shaped and are available in many types and sizes.
This double-jointed eggbutt snaffle has rings of solid stainless steel and a mouthpiece of mild steel combined with a Sweet Iron layer on the mouthpiece (blue). Salivation is further encouraged by the Sweet Iron layer on the mouthpiece. When this material reacts with moisture, warmth and air it oxidises and develops a sweet-tasting surface rust. This helps with acceptance of the bit. Eventually the blue colour disappears, but the taste of the surface rust remains.
The anatomical shape follows the form of the horse's mouth, enabling gentle and even pressure distribution. The Magic System combines the flexibility of a jointed bit with the control of a bar bit. The exclusive design prevents, thanks to the locking function, injuries to the tongue and palate. With a double-jointed bit the mouthpiece consists of three parts, with the middle part lying flat on the tongue. This creates more pressure on the tongue than with a single-jointed mouthpiece. The stronger the centre piece, the more pressure is exerted on the tongue. The mouthpiece is 14 mm thick and the bit rings have a diameter of 65 mm.
An eggbutt snaffle has rings that cannot rotate freely. This means aids act more directly. This bit type is generally well accepted because the mouthpiece sits relatively firmly in the mouth.
