Description
The Velari snaffle with cherry roller mouthpiece combines the advantages of Sweet Iron, a single-jointed mouthpiece and loose rollers in a well-thought-out design. The bit sits pleasantly in the horse's mouth and offers a direct, sensitive connection — without unnecessary complexity.
The mouthpiece is made of Sweet Iron, which oxidises naturally in use. This natural process stimulates salivation and encourages the horse to stay soft and relaxed in the mouth, which contributes to a smoother contact and a calmer, more self-assured
way of going.
The cherry roller consists of loose rollers that discourage the horse from grabbing the bit. At the same time the rollers increase tongue activity, further stimulate saliva production and help relax the jaw. This bit is especially suitable for horses that are hard in the mouth, hold onto the bit or struggle to concentrate.
The single-jointed mouthpiece ensures direct, clear communication between rider and horse. When the rider takes up the reins, the joint forms a slight V-shape that distributes pressure on the bars and relieves the tongue in the centre. This mouthpiece suits horses with a higher palate well. Many horses appreciate the clear, uncomplicated feel of a single-jointed mouthpiece — especially horses that prefer a defined point of action and a stable contact.
The snaffle cheeks offer clear lateral support so the horse can understand the rider's aids calmly and clearly. It is an excellent choice for young or inexperienced horses, as the fixed cheeks give gentle, reliable guidance. The fixed side pieces stabilise the mouthpiece, encourage gentle chewing activity and allow self-assured contact. This stability supports precise rein aids and a smooth, consistent connection when riding.

Care & use
Rinse the bit with warm water after every ride and dry it with a soft cloth. Over time Sweet Iron forms a light patina — a natural oxidation process that improves the taste and encourages acceptance. Store the bit in a dry place and check regularly for even wear. Make sure to fit the bit correctly: the star must be on the left side and the Velari logo on the right side.
Note
Every horse and rider is unique. The information provided is general guidance — not a definitive answer. Always consider your horse's specific needs and your own experience when choosing the right bit. Guide with grace, always.
