Description
Pelhams can be used with either one or two pairs of reins, which results in several attachment options.
If the reins are attached in the snaffle ring, the pelham only acts on pull on the tongue and the lower bars. If horses tend to throw their head up, it makes sense to attach a rein in the ring on the lower shank, because then pressure is applied to the poll. The horse tries to evade this pressure by lowering its head. So that the horse does not come too low, the curb chain should take effect at a maximum of 45° (lower shank to mouth corner).
