The Sweet Iron bits are made of steel and have a recognisable blue colour. Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture, which tastes sweet and naturally stimulates saliva production. The horse will foam more, making it accept the bit better. This rust development (oxidation) changes the blue colour of the TRUST bit to silver/greyish to brown. The Sweet Iron bit will form a thin orange-brown layer of rust on the mouthpiece if it is temporarily not used. This can be easily removed with a damp cloth.
Sweet Iron bits are suitable for most horses.
The Sweet Iron bit has the most variations of mouthpieces, each with its own specific effect.
A double jointed mouthpiece is a standard mouthpiece. This mouthpiece has two hinges, is shaped more towards the mouth and is slightly looser in the horse's mouth. This bit exerts pressure on the tongue, the bars and the corners of the mouth. Caution with narrow lower jaws! The hinge points can press on the bars, which can lead to wounds. Compared to a single jointed bit, this bit exerts more pressure on the tongue.
