Protection for hoof and coronet band

Hoof bells

Jumping bells or bell boots are used to protect the hoof and coronet band if the horse kicks itself with its hind legs. They can also prevent the shoes from being kicked off.

As standard, bell boots are used for the front hooves because there is a risk of the hind hooves kicking in, for example when jumping or running very energetically. Jumping bells can also be used at the rear to protect against injuries or special shoes

Which hoof bell for your requirements?

All bell boots have one thing in common: they protect the pads of the horse's front hooves and in some cases also the hind hooves. There are differences in material and length, and Lepona.de offers a large selection of bell boots for horses and ponies. To help you find the right bell boots for your horse more quickly, here is an overview of the most common materials:

Rubber bell boots

Rubber bell boots are inexpensive and offer good basic protection for the pads. They usually have a closed shape, in which case they have to be pulled over the front or hind hooves, which is a little more time-consuming. Closed bells are not as easily lost by horses as open bells. The rubber is also very easy to care for. There are also open rubber bell boots with Velcro fasteners.

Hoof boots made of neoprene, PVC, artificial leather or leather

Neoprene, PVC, artificial leather or leather are somewhat firmer than rubber and therefore offer slightly higher protection. They have a fastener due to their rigidity. Jumping bell boots with Velcro fasteners are particularly comfortable to use. These are often adjustable and therefore more variable in size and fit. Sensitive horse legs must be padded again. Simple rigid bell boots have a soft neoprene lining with a thickness of around 5 mm.

Bell boots with a fur edge

If this is not enough, the bell boots should be lined with soft lambskin or faux fur to protect the sensitive skin. Lambskin is indescribably soft and kind to the skin. A good, easy-care alternative is faux fur, a synthetic lambskin plush that is almost as soft and washable.
