The Sweet Iron bits are made of iron and have a recognisable blue colour. Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture, which tastes sweet and naturally stimulates saliva production. The horse will foam more, making it accept the bit better.
A Waterford mouthpiece consists of a series of rounded links. It is a flexible bit that moulds itself to the horse's mouth and creates an even pressure. It can move in all directions, making it difficult for the horse to lie down on the bit so that the rider maintains proper control. This bit is not suitable for inexperienced riders. In soft hands this mouthpiece is soft and friendly, but with a strong hand the bit can be sharp.
This side piece has a D-shape. The D-rings ensure that the mouthpiece lies steady and stable in the horse's mouth. The pressure of the side pieces against the cheek makes it easier to turn by automatically pushing the horse's head slightly in the right direction. This also makes the bit suitable for young horses. The shape of the cheekpiece makes it less easy to pull the bit through the mouth.
