Horse farm coastal lout - experience report vacation with horse

The coastal lumberjack riding stables are located in the beautiful Wernerwald in Cuxhaven. The beach is only 2 km away and can be reached via the well-developed network of bridle paths. A ride through the picturesque heath is definitely worth it.

In addition to holiday apartments and boarding houses, the riding stable also offers its own, well-trained horses for guided rides. So if you don't have your own horse, you can still have the unique experience of a ride in the mudflats.

It should be said, however, that a ride with a hired horse and your own horse is not possible. This is separated here, as otherwise the safety cannot be guaranteed for foreign riders. With his own horses, the farm owner knows exactly how they react to things. Foreign boarding horses, which may never have been in the mudflats, are difficult to assess. So that there is no unrest in the usual herd, riders are only ridden separately.

Here it goes back to the overview "Holidays with horse"

The holiday apartment for horse and rider

The Horse farm coastal lout offers three comfortably furnished holiday apartments for 2 - 4 people. One dog is allowed per apartment. The apartments have a covered terrace and a large lawn in front of the house, where you can have a barbecue and be together. In addition, the apartments are fully equipped, including bed linen and towels.

Spacious boxes with an outside paddock are available for the horseswhich can be opened as required. In addition, the holiday horses are in full board and have Access to spacious pastures. The box price includes concentrate, hay / haylage from our own production and straw, as well as shavings (for a surcharge).

If you don't feel like going for a ride and would like to do some sport, you can use a few obstacles on a well-kept grass jumping area. There is also an outdoor space Sand is available for storage, management and analysis.

Arrival at the coastal lout riding stables

My mother always wanted to take a vacation with her own horse and experience the freedom and the incredible feeling of a step on the wad. That is why she fulfilled her dream this summer and drove to Cuxhaven with her riders friends to the coastal louting stables. The family friends have been vacationing there with their horses for years, so my mother didn't have to fear any unpleasant surprises.

After a long and exhausting journey from the local district of Hamm, the two towing vehicles with trailers arrived at the farm and were greeted in a friendly manner. The horses were unloaded and were allowed to relax in their spacious boxes. The people also moved into their holiday homes. My mother wasn't surprised because the apartment kept exactly what was promised: comfort, complete equipment and sufficient for 2 - 4 people. Everything was nice and clean and tidy. Here she could feel comfortable for two weeks.

What is immediately noticeable: due to the location in the Wernerwald, it is really very quiet. There is definitely relaxation for stressed city dwellers here.

General assessment of the riding stables

A look over the riding stables showed that everything is looked after with love here. Not only is the facility in good condition, the local horses also look very good. The hooves are well cared for, shiny fur and no pressure points on the saddle or the girth. Well-groomed horses are always a good sign that boarding horses are also properly cared for and that horse connoisseurs are at work here.

Orlando is a little home bugger who doesn't like being separated from his flock at home. That's why he cried a bit about the food for the first few days. In addition, he is used to the slightly damp haylage from home, which made it a little more difficult for him to switch to the dry hay in the boarding house. But since he has a few kilos too much on his ribs anyway, my mother just waited. Lo and behold: the hay and concentrated feed were eaten normally two days later. The owner feeds really neatly too. No horse has to go hungry here.

The meadows are subdivided for your own horses and boarding horses. Each horse has enough space and does not have to stand around in a section that is too small. Since it is sometimes quite windy, the horses did not need a fly sheet. There were hardly any brakes here.

A small note on the side: a little pony is running around freely in the yard. That is not escaped, it is allowed to do so! If you are unsure about your own horse whether the pony likes it, you should speak to the farm owner in advance.

The bridle paths are a well-developed network with direct access to the beach and the heather

This is how my mother imagined the riding holiday: get up in the morning, have a quick breakfast and off you go for a ride. A saddle room is available for saddles and bridles. You can clean and saddle up either in the stable lane or in front of it.

No matter which direction you ride from the farm: The bridle paths are well developed, because the bridle path network in this unique landscape is a good 60 km long. Riding paths lead from the coastal Lümmel stables to the Wernerwald, the coastal heaths and, of course, to the long beach around Cuxhaven. The Wattweg to the island of Neuwerk is only a few kilometers away and is easy to reach. The ride from the coastal Lümmel horse farm to the island and back again takes around 4 to 5 hours, depending on how many canter routes are built in and how long the stay on Neuwerk is.

Riding in the mudflats - a feeling like flying

Of course, the extended gallop should not be missing if you are already on the beach. However, this is only possible on a few routes, because at this time (July / August) there are many carriages and other riders on the road. And every rider has learned at some point: You ride in a fixed position in the group, you will not overtake and if you come too close to a strange group (whether on foot or on horseback) you will parry through. But since the mudflats are very extensive, some rides in a controlled gallop were possible. Walking and trotting are usually not a problem.

Priele - water up to the stomach

If you would like to ride over to Neuwerk, you should be sure that the horse can also go through water. My mother wasn't sure about Orlando, but since the fat man simply hangs behind another horse in case of doubt, she had few concerns (my mother is generally relatively painless when it comes to unknown situations).

In addition to relatively shallow tides, there is also a fairly deep watercourse to overcome. There the water rises to the belly of a large horse. You have to make sure that you do not ride over with the carriages at the same time, as these displace the water and cause it to rise again.

With my mother and the 1,72 m tall Orlando, the water was just below the saddle flap. Wet feet were guaranteed, because the strong currents made thigh aids irreplaceable to prevent them drifting away. That sounds worse than it was. However, it is advisable to give the horse some lateral support in this situation.

Conclusion: The horse farm coastal lout gets full marks

But also those who are on the move at a trot or at a step have a unique experience. When I spoke to my mother on the phone after the first week of vacation, she couldn't stop raving about it.

The yard is so beautiful, it's so quiet and the stable owner is super friendly. Orlando got used to it quickly and stood contentedly next to the others on the meadow.

The bridle paths are a dream and riding in the mud flats is unforgettable. I got the feeling that neither my mother nor Orlando wanted to come home again.

Orlando in particular seems to have done the two-week vacation at the sea particularly good. He has slimmed down a lot by treading water and built up muscles for it. The fresh sea air was good for the respiratory tract and free running on the beach cleared the mind - for horse and rider.

The stay in the pension stable and the holiday apartments was really pleasant and absolutely recommendable.
