Stirrup leathers are part of the standard equipment for many riders and are indispensable for riding with a saddle and stirrups. The stirrup straps of various well-known brands are mostly made of hard-wearing, durable leather. Manufacturers such as Passier and Kavalkade manufacture stirrup leathers with a nylon core. The integrated nylon inserts prevent the straps from stretching or tearing, even under heavy loads such as show jumping. Horse owners will benefit from high-quality soft leather stirrup leathers for years if they are properly cared for. Then not only the look is noble, but also the comfort is high and the safety for the rider is guaranteed.
Stirrup leathers not only shine visually in different colors, but are also characterized by the best design. In addition to the classic black strap, these are also available in beautiful, warm and classy brown tones. Schockemöhle Sports, Freejump or Waldhausen offer leather stirrup leathers with light contrasting stitching, fine decorative stitching and glitter. This rounds off an elegant look and rider and horse shine in every discipline.
There are several methods to determine the correct length of your stirrup leathers. However, it also depends on the discipline in which you move. When jumping or on a leisurely ride in the country, you have a different strap length than in dressage. For dressage there are two rules of thumb for adjusting the length.
For Variant 1 you don't have to get on the horse and just use your arm's length to help. Take the stirrup in your hand and run it along your arm so that the tread of the stirrup leather ends in your armpit. The length of the stirrup leather measured in this way is suitable for dressage in most cases.
For Variant 2 you must mount and sit on your horse. Relax and let your legs hang down your horse's belly. The tread of the stirrups should be level with your ankles or instep.
This is another way of adjusting the length of the straps for dressage riding. For a ride in the field, it is advisable to shorten the brackets by the 2 holes. Of course, even shorter stirrup leathers are necessary for show jumping, so 3 to 6 holes can be shortened.Stirrup pads and saddle pads can protect your saddle from scratches and dirt. After riding, the stirrups are pulled up and this can lead to unsightly scratches in the leather of your saddle. To avoid this, stirrup covers are simply slipped over the stirrup. At the same time, the stirrup itself is protected. Unfortunately, this can also be easily damaged in the tack cupboard, in the trailer or in the tack room. A saddle cover is a large protective cover for the saddle, which is usually provided with a soft lining on the inside. As soon as the saddle is no longer on the horse's back, it is well packed and protected from dirt and scratches.
The climbing strap can be attached to the front of the saddle. He will help you climb up. In addition, young and inexperienced riders can hold on to it when they are still unsure and unbalanced. Maria-Hilf straps are available in classic black, but also with rhinestones. It is advisable to attach this strap to the saddle, especially when a beginner is making his first attempts at riding on the longe line and is not yet able to hold the reins in his hands.
