Eggbut bits can be compared to loose snaffles in terms of how they work, but the rein aids are transmitted more directly. Due to the firm connection of mouthpiece and ring, the bit sits quietly in the horse's mouth. In addition, the lateral guidance of the horse is simplified by this bit. Eggbutt bits are not recommended for young horses if the horse is not yet familiar with a bit, as well as for riders with hard hands or beginners with restless hands, as the movement is transmitted directly to the tongue and is not cushioned. Eggbut bits should generally be 0,5 to 1 cm smaller than a ring snaffle so that the side parts fit loosely on the horse's mouth.
