Many horses are very sensitive when it comes to moulting. The result is chafing. Protect matt saddle straps with lambskin during this time the sensitive fur and skin. But lambskin has other advantages. It wicks moisture well and balances temperatures. Matt saddle girths are available in different versions. At lepona.de you get the well-known Matte moon strap and other short belts with anatomical cut.
Matt pads can be individually configured - depending on personal needs and taste. Simply send us an email or give us a call. We will help you with the compilation. All Matt lambskin pads are spinal free, so that there is no pressure on the spinous processes. With a saddle pad from Mattes you can cushion the pressure on the horse's back. Another possible use is to compensate for muscular deficits. If your horse is developing and the saddle doesn't fit exactly, you can compensate for the deficit with a matt lambskin.
In addition to the well-known saddle pads, Mattes also offers saddle pads in various shapes. In our Mattes shop you will find the Eurofit dressage saddle pads with lambskin in the saddle seat area. The lambskin ensures optimal pressure distribution, reduces friction and regulates temperature. The underside of these saddle pads is covered with SPINEFREE®. The saddle pad is cut out in the spinal canal and therefore offers more space and reliable pressure relief in the area of the withers and the spinous processes. In addition, the saddle pads are anatomically shaped. The saddle pads can be washed in the washing machine at 30°C with a special fur detergent according to the washing instructions.

Mattes has been purchasing super premium quality lambskin from Australia for over 35 years as one of four companies worldwide. This lambskin meets the extremely high demands that lambskin has to withstand in equestrian sports. With this premium product, Mattes is the only equestrian manufacturer in the world. The lambskin comes from Australian Crossbreeds, which are known for their medium-fine wool with excellent density. The lambs are raised in a species-appropriate manner in the open air and are actually bred for meat - so the lambskin used by Mattes is a by-product. The open wool structure of the lambskin allows air to circulate unhindered, which prevents heat build-up (as with neoprene, for example). In addition, lambskin has a temperature-regulating effect, which is why the pads, saddle belts and other equestrian products can be used both in summer and in winter. Since protein is a crucial component of lambskin, Mattes products are antibacterial. In contrast to other manufacturers, Mattes expressly recommends washing in the washing machine with a special detergent and then drying in the tumble dryer. Due to the tanning, the products are specially designed for this type of cleaning, as brushing out is not enough to maintain the functionality of lambskin in the long run.
Mattes expressly recommends regular cleaning in the washing machine with the special detergent MELP. Washing removes sebum and ammonia as well as dirt from the product. Drying in the tumble dryer makes the wool fluffy again and the leather stays soft. Before washing, you glue the Velcro straps together so that they cannot become knotted. You should remove the POLY-FLEX® inserts and the SADDLE-FIX® system. You should always wash the saddle pads with the lambskin side out. At 30°C with the "Extra Water" option and a normal spin cycle, the pad is now washed with the special detergent MELP. Then take the product out of the machine immediately after the wash cycle and dry it in the tumble dryer at a maximum of 30°C. During drying you should regularly pull the product into shape. Never put it in direct sunlight or on the radiator.
In the case of saddle girths with firmly sewn-on lambskin, you should remove the plastic inserts before washing. After drying, you can use them again. If the lambskin is removable, pull it off the belt. Put the belt in a wash bag with the lambskin in the washing machine. Add about two liters of water to the machine and use the special detergent.
What to do if the washing machine does not have the "Extra water" option?
You can also put water in the washing machine by hand via the detergent compartment. To do this, fill around 3 to 4 liters of water with a measuring cup or a watering jugkanne slowly through the detergent drawer into the washing machine.
Why should you use the special detergent MELP?
Normal wool detergents are usually designed for processed fibers. The lower drawer, i.e. the leather, is not taken into account. The wool becomes brittle and matted over time, and the leather can break. The special detergent MELP, on the other hand, was specially tailored to the lambskin products. It is highly concentrated and biodegradable. It also contains the same substances that Mattes uses in production. Thanks to the moisturizing properties of MELP, the lambskin remains resilient and the leather remains supple.
