Kidney blankets provide - as the name suggests - for warm kidneys. In winter it is particularly important to keep them warm so that your horse does not catch a cold. Kidney blankets are particularly good when riding out, because you can attach them under the saddle flap. So they don't hinder you when riding and you don't have a slippery saddle surface as would be the case with a sweat blanket, for example.
You can also use them in training on particularly cold days. For example, if you don't have a gym for training and it's windy and cold, you protect the sensitive region during training by also using the kidney cover. Since most kidney rugs are made of fleece, they also absorb sweat and keep your horse dry. There are also kidney rugs with a water-repellent surface, which are particularly suitable for rainy days.
Find the right exercise sheet for your horse
As the name suggests, riding blankets are particularly suitable for riding on cold days. Riding blankets with impregnation against rain are particularly suitable for this. After working with the horse, you can use fleece kidney blankets so that your horse can sweat off without getting its kidneys cold from a draft.
The advantage of exercise sheets over a normal one Rain cover or Sweat blanket is that exercise rugs have a saddle cutout. The narrow sides of the blanket are guided under the saddle flap and closed with a Velcro strip at the bridle. In this way, the rug has a firm hold, does not slip, you protect the sensitive areas of your horse and do not sit on a slippery rug, which can be a great advantage in the field.
