If you have already looked more closely at your horse's leg, you have noticed how fragile and sensitive the horse's leg appears. There isn't a large layer of muscle that protects tendons, ligaments, and bones. If you bandage your horse, you should use a bandage pad, because this provides additional protection. It also prevents pressure points and the bandage being applied too tightly, for example when you use elastic bandages.
There are pads for bandaging that have their own Velcro on the side. This makes it particularly easy to put on the bandage pad. The Velcro keeps the pad on your horse's leg. Make sure that you put the bandage pad on the leg without any creases. Now you can wrap the bandage around the horse's leg from top to bottom and back again.
Bandaging pads are available in different sizes for horses and ponies. The sizes range between 30 x 35 cm and 50 x 50 cm and differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. You should always use one size smaller on the front legs than on the back legs. The manufacturers BR, Kavalkade or Eskadron also offer sets of 4, which contain two different sizes. As a rule, however, two bandage pads are always offered in a set, so that you can put them together according to your wishes.
The pads for bandaging horses are available in different materials. Fleece or terry cloth underlays are particularly popular. The Bathing pads Velcro from Kavalkade are made of soft fleece fabric with cotton filling. This offers particularly good padding. There are also bandage pads with pressure-compensating foam and felt tops. The Eskadron Climatex bandaging pads consist of a three-dimensional, super-breathable textile material and thus ensure the best air circulation on the leg. No matter which material you choose, always make sure that the bandage fits snugly on the leg without wrinkles.
Bandaid pads are no longer just padding for the horse's leg. They are available in so many different designs and colors that they have already become a fashion statement. There are bandage pads that have a small collar at the top. This looks beyond the bandage and is usually provided with a pattern. So you can customize the outfit of your horse a little more to your liking.
