If you have already studied your horse's leg, you will have noticed how fragile and sensitive the horse's leg appears. There is not a large layer of muscle that protects tendons, ligaments, and bones. If you bandage your horse, you should use a bandage pad, because this provides additional protection. It also prevents pressure points and too tight application of the bandage, for example if you use elastic bandages.
There are pads for bandaging that have their own Velcro fastener on the side. This makes putting on the bandage pad particularly easy. The Velcro fastener holds the pad on your horse's leg. Make sure that you apply the bandage pad to your leg without creasing. Now you can wrap the bandage around the horse's leg from top to bottom and back again.
Bandaging pads are available in different sizes for horses and ponies. The sizes range between 30 x 35 cm and 50 x 50 cm and differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. You should always use one size smaller on the front legs than on the rear legs. The manufacturers BR, Kavalkade or Eskadron also offer sets of 4, which contain two different sizes. As a rule, however, two bandaging pads are always offered in a set so that you can put them together according to your wishes.
The documents for bandaging horses are available in different materials. Fleece or terry cloth pads are particularly popular. The Bathing pads Velcro from Kavalkade are made of soft fleece fabric with wadding. This offers a particularly good padding. There are also bandages pads with pressure-compensating foam and a felt top. The Eskadron Climatex bandaging pads consist of a three-dimensional, super breathable textile material and thus ensure the best air circulation around the leg. No matter which material you choose, always make sure that the bandage fits snugly around the leg without creases.
Bandage pads are no longer just padding for the horse's leg. They are available in so many different designs and colors that they have already become a fashion statement. There are bandaging pads that have a small collar at the top. This looks beyond the bandage and is usually provided with a pattern. So you can adapt the outfit of your horse a little more to your wishes.
